5 exercise for stroke survivor in the wheelchair

Stroke survivors can do some moderate exercises in the wheelchair, such as, head and neck movement, shoulder and arm movement, swinging arm relaxation exercise, arm flexion and extension, rotation exercise, chest expansion and support exercise, punching fist turning exercise, etc. It can improve their health, the function and coordination of their body parts. So the patient should keep doing some activities in the wheelchair, at least once a day.

 

(1) Head and neck movement. Upper body upright, eyes flat in front, hands and forearms on the armrests of the wheelchair. Head is lowered forward twice, tilted back twice, tilted to the left twice, and tilted to the right twice. The head is turned once to the left and right sides respectively, and repeated twice. The head is raised and restored once each diagonally to the left front and upward, and done twice. The head goes around from left to right once, and then from right to left once, do it twice.

(2) Shoulder and arm movements. The patient’s arms are lowered to the outside of the wheelchair armrest. Lift and restore the right and left shoulders once each, and do it twice. Lift and restore both shoulders at the same time, and do it twice. Circumnavigate the left and right shoulders clockwise and counterclockwise for two weeks respectively. Both arms are bent sideways and the hands hold the shoulders clockwise for one week and then counterclockwise for one week, doing each twice, alternating hands.
(3) Swing the arm to relax the movement.  The patient raises his arms and wiggles them twice over his head.  Relax your arms on the outside of the wheelchair twice. Do this twice.  
With the right hand, while the left arm is relaxed, pat from the top down, then from the bottom up, and repeat the same motion with the left hand, twice each.

(4) Arm flexion, extension and rotation movements. Both arms hang down on the outside of the wheelchair armrest.
① Make a fist with both hands. Open them again and flex and extend them four times. 
②  Both arms are raised palm down, palm up, palm forward, palm down and fingers flexed and extended four times each. 
③ Both arms down, front flat, up, side flat from the inside to the outside of each rotation twice. 
④ Two hands clenched fist placed on the side of the shoulder, two arms in front of the flat lift, five fingers extended, palms relative, restore. Both arms up, side planks, front planks, with five fingers extended, do each once. Cross your fingers, turn your wrists and hold them up, palms outward, do it twice. 
⑤ Two arms flexed, two hands crossed to the chest, palms inward, do two times. 
⑥ Two arms up, two hands crossed wrists, chest up, do two times.
(5) Arm-bicycling and leg-bicycling.
